In today’s post we discuss the 4th of July events and explain how your insurance agency can retain its significance even when it is being sold.

fourth-of-jury Last weekend marked the 4th of July and it was celebrated in style throughout the country. While some people opted for a quiet family celebration with a backyard barbeque or picnics in the park or at the beach, others spent the nation’s birthday with their friends at a parade or at a fireworks show. Independence Day has become bigger and better every year and some of the major cities attracted huge crowds this year for their spectacular commemorative events. The nation’s birthplace Philadelphia held festivities from morning into the night, which included a massive fireworks display over the Philadelphia Museum of Art, a parade through the historic city center and a concert on the Parkway. Boston also had a fireworks display over the Charles River, but it was more special as it was accompanied by the fantastic Boston Pops Orchestra. Everyone expected a lot from the nation’s capital and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Washington DC’s 4th of July began with a huge parade and continued with “A Capital Fourth,” which included performances by the National Symphony Orchestra as well as several other famous musicians, then finished with a memorable fireworks show. However, Bristol, Rhode Island, was undoubtedly the best place to be for those searching for something a little different. It is the scene of the oldest continuous July 4th celebration in the country and held three weeks of public events, beginning on Flag Day on June 14th and culminating in the historic parade on Independence Day. The first parade was held there in 1785, and the to wn hasn’t missed a year since. It attracts a record number of spectators every year because of its unique traditions, which include a Patriotic Exercises Speaker, a visiting U.S. Navy ship, a Button Contest and a Longest Travelled Award. The 4th of July celebrations have certainly come a long way since the very first Philadelphians remembered the day in 1777 by ringing bells, firing guns, lighting candles and setting off firecrackers. Nevertheless, the day hasn’t lost its significance. Everyone commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 by the members of the Second Continental Congress that affirms that since all people are creatures of God, or nature, they have certain natural rights, or liberties, that cannot be violated. They celebrate the message of freedom for all. Every insurance agency has a founding mission and purpose and tries its best to align all business objectives with those values. However, as the agency grows and is forced to adapt and integrate it becomes more and more difficult to achieve this. It is especially tough when you are selling your insurance agency, as potential buyers may not always share your agency’s values and may even want to change the business name. You need to stress the importance of your mission-driven brand to them in order to reassure stakeholders that the company will retain its significance. This will ensure that it continues to thrive under new ownership.
