I was asked to teach a business policy class last semester at a local university.  It is a course that I have taught many times as a case study course.  One of the most important aspects of this type of course, is to have students collaborate with each other.  It allows them to arrive at solutions that will help businesses with an existing problem or suggest viable opportunities in order to grow the business.

The university asked me to teach the class online and I declined.  One of the most important parts of this class for me was watching the direct interactions and relationship building in the classroom setting.   They built a relationship as they learned from each other.  These relationships were developed in spite of technology advances such as Google Hangouts and more sophisticated Telepresence from Cisco and others that suggest that you can still have a collaborative team effort without face-to-face interactions.

Have things changed that much?

My insurance career began thirty years ago.  At that time I was told that the insurance field was a relationship business.  I was young and skeptical and I am not sure I totally agreed with this concept.  Hindsight is truly 20-20 because I believe that direct relationship building in a face to face environment tells you things that you can’t learn from technology interaction.

Our commitment

That is why someone from Sukay & Associates attends the meetings between clients and potential buyers.  It seems as though other advisors either call into the meeting or don’t attend at all.  We believe that it gives us a clear insight about the buyer and their ultimate plan for our clients.  It allows us to advise our clients on the best fit for them moving forward.  We believe it is just one more thing that separates us from our competition.
